New CCR Catalog Launched
In June 2007, the Coriell Cell Repositories launched a completely redesigned catalog that will facilitate searching for biomaterials distributed by the Repositories, and also streamline the ordering process.
The catalog provides improved navigation and organization throughout the site, to more easily browse the biomaterials in the different collections, as well as across collections. A new search engine, using a Google search appliance, is integrated into the catalog. This new search engine combines the strengths of Google technology, specifically search speed, relevance matching, and keyword indexing, with customized search results.
A new SNP search is available that dynamically queries NCBI's dbSNP database for a gene or SNP of interest. This SNP search returns samples that have SNP data, and their corresponding genotypes.
The catalog also now has online ordering, in addition to the option of placing orders via Fax. Once registered for an account, researchers can place orders for biomaterials, save "favorites" lists, and check order history.
The following table summarizes the currently maintained WWW catalogs by Coriell.

CCR Catalog History
Coriell has provided the scientific community with a catalog of biomaterials since 1973. Beginning in 1977, a printed catalog was computer-generated every two years until 1995. The first Coriell electronic catalog was made available to the user community via a telephone dial-up connection in 1993. A second-generation electronic catalog was developed in 1996. This catalog, developed for the World Wide Web through a contract with Johns Hopkins University, incorporated some of the features available in the printed catalog version, such as ideogram images, that were unavailable with the first version of the electronic catalog. A third-generation catalog was developed in 1997 at the Coriell Institute. This catalog had search functionality, enhanced navigation tools, and direct links to several external databases such as OMIM, PubMed, dbSNP, Gene Expression Omnibus, and GenBank.
